REPORTING SPEECH

REPORTING SPEECH
When we are reporting what someone has said, we change the time and the tense of the verb:
  1. Present Simple=> Past Simple
  2. Present Continues=> Past Continues
  3. Future (will)=>Conditional (would)
We use retorical questions to expressing different emotions and we don't really expect an answer:
  • Indignation
  • Indifference
  • Excitement
  • Enthusiasm
(Tell) someone+infinitive=> Reporting Commands (Afirmative): My teacher told me to study harder.
(Tell) someone+not+infinitive=> Reporting Commands (Negative): My mum told me not to get a tatoo.

When we are reporting what someone has asked, we use:
  • Ask+If/whether
  • Ask+Question word (when, where, who...)
